THE ESSENTIAL ATTITUDE
Increase individual consciousness
Yoga practise makes use of the human system to increase individual consciousness.
The human body/mind when properly toned and tuned by training enables the practitioner to enter the state of samadhi or super consciousness. The first step in tuning the instrument is to understand the attitude with which to undertake the physical practise.
To forge the spirit
To forge the spirit we need to face our fears and look through our illusions without hesitation. When developing consciousness this means to let go of our conditioned thought processes. Thoughts of changing or becoming something other than what we are, is a sign of ignorance.
Even thinking of being empty in the mind is a false notion. Meditating on the principle of no-mind brings the realisation that nothing is wrong or lacking inside. When the use of discriminatory thought ceases and opinions can be dropped, ignorance dissolves and total awareness dawns.
Witnessing
Remaining fully conscious of the movement of breath while performing yoga asana or any other action, strengthens the ability to remain the witness. Being firmly rooted in witnessing all actions directly increases meditative awareness.
Mastery of yoga techniques, increasing internal prana and deep meditation are required to reveal the inner light that guides our actions. This requires many years of study and devotion to the practise. Asana performed totally with every ounce of energy and full awareness leads to no-mind.
The presence of hesitation
The presence of hesitation when practicing yoga asana means one is working to an agenda. The wish to develop without having to drop attachment to the fears created by the conditioned mind prevents totality and causes agitation. This is identification with the mind and it's previous imprints.
Until these past tendencies of the mind are deeply looked at, and through the looking transformed into understanding, hesitation will remain. All fears must evenually be clearly recognised or yoga asana becomes difficult and dangerous. Fears cause objects and events to be falsely perceived then reality is wrongly understood and more fears are created by the mind.
