SHIATSU

Shiatsu is a Japanese body work therapy which restores health and vitality by stimulating the circulation of energy and blood throughout the body.

Closely aligned with traditional Chinese medicine, shiatsu adopts a holistic approach to health by treating symptoms as well as their root causes.

We use our palms, thumbs, elbows, knees and sometimes feet to work on various parts of the body.

We may also use other techniques to enhance treatments including cupping, moxibustion, Chinese massage and yoga-like stretches.

By working on the muscles and more deeply on the internal organs, nervous system and meridians (energy channels), shiatsu harmonises the body & mind, and promotes well-being.

How can shiatsu help you?

Shiatsu is sometimes seen as simply a way to relax. While this is true, it can also treat a wide range of conditions including:

  • Stress, anxiety and depression
  • Neck, shoulder and back pain
  • Headaches and migraines
  • Digestive disorders
  • Poor circulation
  • Digestive disorders
  • Muscular pain
  • Insomnia
  • Menstrual disorders
  • Arthritic conditions
  • Allergies, asthma and hayfever
  • Health maintenance during pregnancy
  • General health maintenance

Shiatsu is a safe and effective therapy suitable for all ages.

What can you expect from a treatment?

Clients are treated fully clothed lying on a futon on the floor so it’s best to wear loose, comfortable clothing.

Sessions usually run for one to 1.5 hours, which includes diagnosis and consultation.

Each practitioner works differently, so don’t be afraid to ask questions or give feedback as it’s important that you feel comfortable throughout the treatment.

How often should you get treatments?

This is one of the most common questions that clients ask. The answer really depends on you, your condition and circumstances at the time.

But as a basic rule, getting regular treatments will help you to return to a natural state of balance more quickly and consistently. The key then is to maintain that balance to prevent illness, which is not always easy in our busy and often stressful lives.
